2017 – 2018 News:
BAND BEGINS SEPT. 11th 2017
Hi STMS Parents and Students,
I hope all of you have had a wonderful summer. I am really looking forward to seeing all of you again. Judging by how well both bands did by the end of the year last year, I know that we will have the best bands yet for this coming season at STMS. I am very excited to work with, and direct both of these fine groups again.
This letter is just a reminder to let you know that both bands will be starting classes the week of September 11th. Bands will be open to all 5th through 8th grade students whether they were in band last year or not. Students will need to arrive in the band room by 7:30am to start class. The band period will end at around 8:25am each day. No band on Fridays.
The Beginning Band will be held every Monday and Wednesday starting September 11th, and is for all 5th grade students, or any first time band student’s grades 5 through 8 that are interested. We will have the same people in Beginning Band that we had at the end of the year last year plus any new students that want to join. Except for first time beginners, almost all of you will be moving up to the Advanced Band after the Christmas Concert. If you have not had band before or don’t have an instrument yet, don’t worry, just show up on Monday anyway. You will have plenty of time to get an instrument. We do have a few instruments that you can use for free. Please ask me what is available if you are interested in using one of the school instruments.
The Advanced Band will begin on September 12th and be held every Tuesday and Thursday for all interested 6th through 8th grade students with at least one full year of band experience. This Band will also be made up of the same people that we had at the end of the school year last year.
Be sure to bring your band book “Accent on Achievement” Book 1 for Beginning Band, and Book 1 and 2 for the Advanced Band if you have them. Also, please have your band binders and folders with you if possible. The information you need for the band folders is outlined on the second page of the band packet. (I will have plenty of extras band packets in the band room when you arrive next week.)
I am really looking forward to seeing all of you again, and also meeting any new students that want to be a part of our great band program this coming year.
This will be a fantastic year for making music and having tons of fun! I will see you all there.
